My Current Obsessions

1 May

Hello ladies! Happy May! It was an awful, wet and cold April. I am looking forward to May in a big way! More sun, warmth, and of course…flowers! 🙂 I really get into gardening, and my lavender is already green again and growing and so are my Irises! I love growing my own herbs and different flowers. I will definitely share pictures along the way this spring and summer!

I wanted to pull together all of the items I have been using pretty much daily so you can get an idea of what I am “obsessing” over at the moment.

Dish of Obsessions!

  1. DDF Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew: I have finally found my HG moisturizer in this. It was a 100 point perk on, and it sounded interesting. Before using my points on it I read the reviews and people with oily skin were RAVING about this product. I knew I had to try it after that, being an oily/combo skin gal myself. This stuff feels amazing on the skin. It never feels greasy or oily or anything like that. EVER.
  2. Guerlain Meteorites Primer: I have already reviewed this here, but cannot say enough how much I enjoy using this product. And use it I do, every single day. I really feel like this gives my skin that added boost of luminosity and smoothness.
  3. Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation and MAC Pro Longwear Concealer: My HG foundation and HG concealer are never far from reach. After trying numerous of each, I have finally settled into happy land with these two essentials. Let’s face it, if you don’t have these two right, you can’t be fully happy with your makeup, at least I can’t!
  4. MAC Quad: I finally got the brilliant idea that keeping all of MAC shadows in 15 pan palettes is great for saving space, it isn’t the most conducive to using the shadows on a daily basis. So I took four of my favorites and plunked them into this quad. I don’t use them all together, but sometimes I do use just this quad for my eye makeup. Patina is great all over the lid in a rush. I love using Nylon on the upper lid and blending Mystery halfway onto the lid and into the crease for a grey smokey look. Soft Brown can and is used in many, many looks to blend out harsh edges.

MAC Shadows L-R: Nylon, Patina, Soft Brown, Mystery

T-B: Stila Kajal Topaz, MAC Sharkskin, JK Dewy Glow Rose Gold

  5. Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow: Although more recent to my collection I can already say that I am 100% in love. After trying it out I promptly returned Amber Diamond as this gives the same effect but in my preferred texture! Those of you who prefer creams and liquid highlights to powder will definitely want to give this a go! I got it in the shade Rose Gold.
  6. Stila Kajal Liner in Topaz: I have never really liked white on the waterline (except certain special circumstances and looks) I prefer more of a nude liner there. Having struggled to find something to stay the course on the waterline I finally settled on Topaz during the latest F&F sale at Sephora. I have used it everyday since and I am so impressed with the staying power! Keep in mind that my eyes are not watery and I don’t suffer from allergies so this may affect your results if you do.
  7. MAC Sharkskin Shadestick (Disc.): Found at a CCO in Orlando earlier this year. I had wanted it for some time and was delighted at finding it. I recently re-discovered it upon digging through my collection one day. I use an eyeliner brush and swipe it on my eyes. I have no problems with it staying put. Much more brightening than a black liner!

    Tarte Clay Blush in Flush

  8. Tarte Clay Blush in Flush: Ahh, long lost love. When I first discovered my love for these blushes back in February I went on a spree and snatched up 6 shades right away. To my dismay I haven’t had a chance to play with all of them that much because, yes, I have several other new blushes to try as well. Flush is gorgeous! It was one of the first two I chose (the other being Tipsy) for good reason. You should check this shade out if you haven’t already!

That wraps up my current obsessions, save for two things: my new favorite mascaras! I am saving those for a separate post, coming right after this one! I can’t wait to share these with you guys because I am really excited about these two products!

Do we share any obsessions? What products do you find yourself reaching for day in and day out?

March Favorites!

5 Apr

It’s that time again ladies! The time where we showcase the products we have been loving for the past month. I’m not going to sit and introduce this because the title really is quite self-explanatory! Let’s get to it.

March Favorites!

Shown Above:

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation- Medium
  • MAC Bare Study Paint Pot
  • Bare Minerals Nude Beach e/s
  • Physicians Formula Happy Booster Translucent Powder
  • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW20
  • Tarte Foundation Brush
  • Sonia Kashuk Cheerful lipgloss
  • MAC Oak Lipliner
  • MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick Gotta Dash!
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush Tipsy

Swatches L-R (w/flash) Happy Booster Powder, Oak lipliner, Gotta Dash, Cheerful, Tipsy, Nude Beach, Bare Study, Nude Beach over Bare Study, Pro Longwear Concealer

I have been using the Happy Booster Translucent Powder for over a month now. I love the smell, the feel, and slight glow it gives my skin. Oak lipliner is a great liner that I have been under my brights to tone them down a notch for day time or office wear. Gotta Dash is one shade from the new formula launched by MAC in February (I think that’s when it came out). It is such a pretty peachy coral that goes with everything. I have been wearing it over Oak lipliner as well to extend wear time. Cheerful gloss is in the same color family as Gotta Dash, and I LOVE the formula of this gloss. It is not sticky at all, very different formula than I have ever tried. I am not sure what more I can say about Tarte Tipsy than I have already said. You can see my original review here and my follow up dupe comparison here. It is a very lovely blush to have for any skin tone really. Bare Minerals Nude Beach eyeshadow was something I first heard about from Tiffany @ Will Work For Makeup on twitter. Once she tweeted about it, I had to investigate! Then I believe it was a few days later Jessica from Getting Cheeky did a FOTD with it, you can see her post here. It was all downhill after that, as they say. I picked it up right away and fell in love with it. I wore it layered over Bare Study Paint Pot from MAC most often. While in New Orleans, I had my makeup done (not a full face) at a MAC counter and adored the concealer the wonderful MUA used and purchased it on the spot. The Pro Longwear Concealer is perfect for under the eye. NW20 is lighter than my normal concealer shade, so I wouldn’t use this on my face. It is specifically for my under eye area. I typically like a lighter shade of concealer under my eyes, and the MUA there actually recommended going for a lighter than my skin tone color to use under the eyes. This is the first concealer I have used under my eyes THAT DOES NOT CREASE EVER! I don’t even need to set it, and frequently I don’t. It blends well and it my HG under eye concealer.

Swatches without the flash

Tarte Foundation Brush

Lastly, I had to mention this brush. By far, hands down the best brush for foundation it has been my pleasure to try! This came with a QVC set called Tarte 8th World Wonder and is meant to be used with the clay foundation (also shown above) The foundation and the brush are worth the price of the QVC set alone. The clay foundation is perfect for my oily skin. It contains SPF 15 and blends like a dream. I am not going to go too much into detail on this because I have a full review of the set coming up. But I have used this brush and the foundation almost every single day since getting it a month ago. It is so incredibly soft and dense!

That about wraps up my favorites for last month. Feel free to share your favorites below, or your thoughts on the products I mentioned above. Have you tried any of them?

January Favorites!

7 Feb

Hello all! I have decided to start doing favorites monthly now, as time permits.

First up, a splurge item from Chanel (as seen in Michele1218’s videos on youtube, link is in the left side bar). It is the Soleil tan de Chanel bronzing makeup base, and I really  really enjoy this product.

Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel

The smell of this is divine! I love the creamy consistency and it blends so smoothly. It gives the perfect glowy bronze look and it is matte. It was more expensive than I would normally pay for a bronzer but I haven’t seen another product quite like this. If you haven’t seen or tried this, I recommend visiting a Chanel counter and checking it out!

My next favorite is an eyeshadow palette I have already reviewed here. I have been raving and raving about this palette, which is again from something I saw in Michele1218’s videos (love her!).

Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Palette

There isn’t much more to say then I have already said in the review. I use this palette SO frequently, more frequently than even my UD Naked Palette. Love, love love!

Now on to my favorite lip product of the month. It’s a lipstick by MAC and I have been wearing this almost every day.

MAC Freckletone

It is my favorite nude lipstick. It isn’t chalky or cakey looking and it is a warm nude instead of a cool pink nude. It looks great with my skintone and is wearable with just about everything.

Another MAC product that I am currently loving are the paint pots. I have a few colors but my two current favorites are Rubenesque and Soft Ochre.

MAC Paint Pot Soft Ochre and Rubenesque

I have been using these everyday. Not together, of course, but one or the other. Soft Ochre is great for neutralizing any discoloration on your eye (veins, etc.). These act as great bases. I still use a primer underneath, because they can crease on you. They really help bring out the color in eye shadows. They also help the shadows stick better. Great product.

Last thing by MAC as a favorite for January is an MSF I found last month at a CCO but didn’t really start using until this month. It is the Refined MSF.

MAC MSF Refined

I am glad I found this. I have heard about this on various blog and videos I watch. It is so natural and not over the top like other MSFs can be (I am looking at you, Shimpagne). I love using this as a highlight and even lightly dusting all over my face because it isn’t super sparkly or shimmery. I will have swatches coming up soon.

My next favorite is a blush I had my eye on for a long time before finally swatching it a Sephora and deicing I needed to have it. Check out NARS Douceur.

NARS Douceur

It shouldn’t be a surprise that this is my favorite blush this month since it pairs nicely with my fav lipstick and eyeshadow palette. I have been wearing them all combined together A LOT. NARS blushes blend well and although the vast majority of their blushes are highly pigmented, this one has a more subdued feel which makes it nice to pair with a more dramatic and bold eye. Be careful with this one, depending on your skin tone it may not show up on you, or you may have to layer it quite a bit to show up. I am NC37 for reference.

My last favorite is going to go be nail polish. I usually change my polish every 2-3 days because I just love to experiment, but this is a polish that I can wear for days and days and I normally don’t like nudes. This one just works for me so well. It’s from Essie’s spring collection, it’s called Topless and Barefoot!

Essie Barefoot and Topless

This polish lasts on me for at least a week. It would have lasted longer I am sure but I changed my polish to match a dress for an event I went to . Nude polishes usually don’t look flattering on me but this one works with my skin tone. It is a creme finish and it had a nice smooth application.

Well, that sums up my go-to products for the last month. I love hearing and reading about other people’s favorite items, so please leave your ideas in the comments below or tweet me your favs!
